As can be seen from the picture, this item is in amazing shape for its age even the white 1 10 mile digit retains most of its original white background color, instead of having faded to a dull yellow as so many of these have over the years. You don't see many like this available on or anywhere else, that's for sure. Up for offer is an outstanding condition original equipment speedometer for the W123 series of Mercedes Benz diesel cars.

But the speedometer is frequently a problem area the odometers tend to stop working on them.

The part number for this speedometer is or, as it reads with the spaces inserted, though again, this should work for many W123 cars with different part number speeds, or at least the ones with manual transmissions. Somebody obviously drove the hell out of this 240D. Yes, that's right, by 1984, the 1979 model car this came from had already been driven over 375k miles in only 5 years.

I have tested it and all speedometer and odometer functions work properly. This one, with over 600k miles, is a true conversation piece and a real rarity, even in these incredibly durable and long lasting cars. With 600,000 miles on this one, it doesn't seem in danger of quitting anytime soon this one is obviously a keeper.

This was removed from a 1979 240D diesel sedan equipped with 4 speed manual transmission.

If you're a W123 diesel owner as I am, you also know that there's a true sense of pride from having a car not with low mileage on the clock as is the case with most other cars, but rather, true pride comes from having a speedometer that indicates lots of miles. The odometer reads 611,163 miles yes that's right, nearly two thirds of million miles, a true testament to the reliability of these vintage Mercedes diesels.

The W123 series of diesels are the 240D and 300D sedans, 300cd coupe, and 300td station wagons, plus a variety of European market equivalents. However, since this came from a car with a 4 speed stick, it would be best to use this for another car with a manual transmission, since the automatics are geared slightly differently and this may not read a completely accurate speed in a car with an automatic.
